1969 Camaro Z-28s made for Trans Am racing (my dad had one) had 302 c.i. displacement; I believe they ran 327 pistons with 283 c.i. rods for an over bore setup. The 1969 307 c.i. (my mother had one) was a long-stroke smog motor and a real dog compared to the 302 or 327. I don't know how many 302s made it to marine use, I have seen a few, they may have been transplants.

Lt. Holden, You are correct the chev 302 Whitch first showed up in 67 is a 283 crank running in a 327 block ,Mark Danahue made this engine noted in driving Roger Penske's Z-28's. Made it's HP at high rpm and low on the torqe #'s. I don,t know of any OEM using them in marine service. How ever you take a 307 whith a long 327 stroke and small 283 bore and put it in marine service without the smog requirements. It produces very good torque #'s at the low to mid RPM ranges for it's small displacement. Just what is required to push a boat. CRB

New to this but I agree with edjunior,as far as I ever remember the 20 foot boats were all Aztecs.
302 was most likely a ford if the distributor is in the front,I remember omc used ford more than the rest but I have seen older volvo and mercruiser drives use some fords early on,mostly 60s and 70s boats.
Our first imp had a 231 buick in it when we bought it but was quickly replaced by a 327 chevrolet v8.

I am considering purchasing an IMP Navajo from my in-laws but was curious to learn more about it first. I don't know the year, but I know the price is reasonable. In reading the forum I saw that many of you have Commanches or Aztecs, does anyone else own a Navajo?

Jake- where in AZ are you? I'm in AZ also!

Thanks for all the info! So far this has been the most I've been able to find!

What kind of hull does it have? Deep-vee, tri-hull, shallow-vee? Does it have a cabin? An open bow?

Parts Needed

My parents have a 1969 Navajo IMP that they bought new from Wilson Hardware in Iola, KS. We are trying to find an exhaust manifold for the left side. The boat has a 327 Chevy engine. Any help will be appreciated.

New Member Questions, PLEASE HELP

Hey all, new member here and I have an 93 IMP eleganza with a 454. I took it out on the lake today and everything was fine for about 30-40 minutes. While going at a pretty good speed but not topped out I hear a loud popping sound coming from the motor. I slow down to check it out and put her into idol. I'm still hearing the popping sound but it is not in a pattern or constant like it would be with lets say a rod knocking and its a much different sound. It sound like a cap gun going off but much louder. I open the motor cover and it sounds like its coming from the carb. I check my temp gauge, oil gauge and all is fine. She is not smoking and when I give her gas she had not lost power but the noise gets louder. It gets louder but no more constant. so RPMs does not effect the popping noise. It does sound like the carbs are back firing. I just wanted to ask to see in anyone has any ideas?I was able to get her all the way back to the boat ramp. This is my first boat and the very first time I have ever launched a boat or even been on the water other then on friends boats. Any help would be great! Kinda messed up my Fathers Day plans!

You'll probably get better answers for you mechanical questions at one of the following links:

iboats Forum

or

MarineEngine.com Forums

Check them out. For the record, I don't think I've ever heard of a 327 in an IMP before. Not from the manufacturer anyway. Could be a replacement??
