My guess, and it is only a guess would be to plumb the port and starboard, and the one return line, and plug off the unused return, this would be used in a dual ram system

thanks dave for the ideas. i gave it a shot and nothing happened so we just plumbed the port to port and starboard to starboard and it seemed to be ok i think i,ll need to bleed it out still but at least i have most of my steerinfg back now. thanks again

Did you by any chance buy this boat in Texas? Reason I ask is that recently a beautiful and mint condition '72 IMP Aztec Hardtop was advertised for sale on ebay but the first time it didn't get to the reserve price, and the second time no one bid on it. Had I hit the lottery I would have bought this boat in a heart beat. My own '73 IMP Aztec is not hardtop. Anyway, I'm just curious.

Kujawa, our IMP also has the gas tank in the middle of the boat - aft. We took it out and it was riddled with small pits and even some that penetrated the skin through to the inside of the tank. We decided to patch ours. Used JB Weld and that was three years ago. We scraped and sanded the pits before applying the weld. We check the tank about every three to four months and it's holding just fine. Also had to replace our carbuertor too. One that was on it was bad and besides which, it was an automotive carb. Eventually we had one put on at a shop and the price tag was a grand. But, the engine runs great and purrs like a kitten. One thing to check with your new boat is the motor mounts. Quite often these old boats have bad wood under the mounts and if you run the boat a lot you can damage the outdrive if there is movement in the engine under power. We cut out our wood on both sides, replaced the wood then glassed over the deck. Really looks nice and is very strong. Good luck with your IMP. Here's what our boat looked like when we finished with it, but before we added a trolling motor and a chair on the bow.

The way my aztec was constructed, the stringers had openings in them, presumably for drainage. these openings are @6" long, and 3" high. I Through bolted a pair of steel plates on top of the stringers,Through these openings. after locating the motormount holes, I drilled, and welded threaded studs in these spots. now, the plates are very firmly anchored, and can remove the engine multiple times with out fear of stripping the lags to create a walking motor situation.
Your stringers need to be in good shape, not rotted, for this, but once done, no more worrys. the 1/2 inch heightgain caused by the plates did not affect the mounting, boot, or operation of the boat.
use stainless for all mounting hardware
