I/O Trim Problem, please help.

I have a 1969 Sportcraft 21 footer. The trim on the motor goes up fine and the 1st down cycle fine. The next time I go all the way up and back down it stops an inch short. The next cycle 2 inches short, then finally it gets to where it only goes all the way up to half way down.

Now if my dad stands on the outdrive it works fine. This is when it's on land, haven't tried it in the water...

Any idea what's wrong?

Mercrusier Pre-Alpha (R or 1) The boat is a 1968 Sportcraft C-Eagle and the Cylinders have the two lines at the front of the cylinders, not front and back...

Have you checked the oil level in the pump?
