flag dimensions

What is the typical flag dimensions for say a U.S. flag on the back of a 22'ish boat? Is there a standard size for certain length ranges of boats? What about other types of flags. Thanks for the help.

The "general rule" is 1" long for every 1' of boat length. The staff should be twice the length of the flag's vertical length (Quoted from BoatUS catalog)
