Electric Trailer Winch

I just picked up a 9,000 # Electric Trailer Winch at Cabelas for my Shamrock 246 CC with Yanmar 240 in it.

Im thinking about the high current loss of running the power wires the legnth of my Dodge Ram 2500 Club Cab with 8 ft bed.

The boat is on a Atlantic Alum Trailer with bunks and was thinking that I could mout a Deep Cycle battery on the trailer tounge to power the winch and have the 7 pin trailer connector recharge the winch battery. Also could add a connector onto the trailer and the boat with a jumper wire that would recharge the boats batteries while driving.

Have Any of you guys done such a thing?

This same type of rig could also recharge the electric Trolling Motor & Downrigger batteries!

I've done similar things. Depending on the wire (only one needed) size you use, you may not need a very big or deep cycle battery (it's a booster, not a primary battery).

You might also consider UHWM plastic covered bunks. Makes the boat slide very easily.

MY SON HAS SOMETHING CLOSE TO WHAT ARE TALKING ABOUT AND HAS A BIG DEEP CYCLE BATTERY IN THE BACK OF HIS 4X4 AND YOU ONLY NEED ONE SPECIAL CABLE FROM THE FRONT TO THE BACK !! HE HAS SOME KIND OF A REGULATOR SYSTEM WITH SWITCHING TO CHARGE ALL AND ANY BATTERY THATS CONNECTED AND DOES NOT INTERFEAR WITH THE VEHICALS OWN BATTERY AND MAKE IT GO FLAT . .

Pluck it off and recharge it in your garage. Just make a battery box on the trailer tongue. Won't need to be that big. I plan on doing this for my TB.
MUCH better than slick plastic is a product (bunk rollers) that screw rollers on a gal steel channel to existing wood bunks. All roller system. 4 & 5' lengths.
If your'e going to leave the battery installed whats the difference .. you could just run heavy wires from the truck battery back to the inside of the bed up near the top of the tailgate. Just use the vehicle's own battery.

Most inexpensive way is to use your truck battery and let your truck idle while using the winch. you can direct wire a plug in at the rear of your truck or just use quality jumper cables.

Just use hd plug to couple the two together !! Only need one wire from the front to the back and earth to the body !And yes always leave the truck motor going when you are using the winch !
