| bow ballast tank pickup question I have a bow tank, that fills with water on a high speed planning hull. It has 1 3/4" dia pickup, and I am trying to guestimate the amount of pressure on the tank, for eg at 70mph and when filling. I need to fit an inspection hatch into the tank and want something capable of holding up under the forces |

| Well, ram pressure is 1/2*rho*v^2 so 73 psi give or take. That compartment better have some serious structure or be vented. If it is vented, max pressure is going to be geometry dependent.
