Traditional boat shapes and designs from all over the world !

Bd.net is such a huge multicultural gathering ground, so i Figured i would start a thread which has all the strange looking designs / boats we came across from all different parts of the world.

I will start with some designs from Egypt.
The 3 first pictures are a popular boat used in rivers, the engine's fitted are usually 80+ HP engines. These boats are FAST !!
They are polyester / matt fiberglass construction. The frames are mulberry and planks are white wood.

The 4th picture is a very traditional river sailing boat. I printed a book couple of years back that had pictures dating to 1910, the boats where very similar. (they where primarily cargo boats). Ill try to get the book and scan some pictures

My all time favorite boat is now over 50 years old. The last I heard, it was still in prime service. My uncle built it in the late 40's or early 50s. It was made out of a pair of matching triangular car hoods from the late 30s or early 40s. All he had to do was trim the wide ends a bit so that he could weld them together. The boat was very stable and easy to manage. In between wave experiments on the farm, I spent many hours in it on the pond.

http://www.sailingahead.com/informat..._sailing_I.htm early 1980 i saw in hurghada (than a small sleepy vilage on the red sea) how felouk type boats of say 15 meter were build by the side of the road from thick planks with only very basic tools. saw them before in turkey, greece etc but this time i took great interest, took some (than the newest thing) video's, try'd some arabic but had a very hard time getting to know these boats specs. later i fancy'd the same style heavy build big wooden motor boats at cyprus. these nice boats are build seemingly without drawings, just planks, nails and a sharp eye. guess around 1600 they must have worked the same in this country, importing threes from the peacefull north route, sawing them with windmills and exploring the world holland had an golden trading age. this country is flat so boats had to be flat, most waters here you can stand in. flat bottom boats and sideboards were not all seaworthy. as a kid my first toy boat was a wooden clog, later had a wooden botter, steel barge, poly expres cruiser, now only dreams. today we still have an old historical wooden fleet resembling those old boats yet modern dutch yachtdesign is among the best inthe world. oops wait, thread is about powerboats, ah well http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yacht

yipster hurghada is one of my favorite diving spots.

Most of the traditional boat builders still build exactly the same way with wood
with out plans just the mold for the frames (which was done by eye)
