    Backing Ruddrer Tips?

My new 50ft Ex Navy Launch has a working backing rudder.

This is a cone like a megaphone that is in front of the propellor , and has an aux shaft so it moves with the main rudder.

Any old tug boat folks out there with any operational tips?

In the Outer Banks, Omie Tillet started using a system in the 60's that works really well. The usual rudder is aft of the propeller, but there are two small ones forward on each side of the shaft. The three are connected together and move at the same time. It doesn't affect speed and makes maneuvering easy in reverse.
