H2O Gato, offer the guy 700 bucks and see if they bite. If they hem and haw a bit, show them (physically show them) 9 one hundred dollar bills. If this doesn't work, I would walk away and let them think about the sale they could have had, for a few days, maybe a week. Call back and the boat will likely still be for sale and offer 1,000 over the phone (of course after you retry the $900 price). If they still are firm, look for a different boat, as in this market, taking a 33% hit on a sale is doing fairly well. Certainly it's better then no sale or a poke in the eye with a pointy stick.
