Yamaha 703 side mount control

Can anyone tell me if a 703 side mount control works with my Yamaha 40 jet?
I found one new in the box on craigslist. I am guessing you use an extra long shift cable to the reversing gate ( Yamaha or outboard jets ) being the source?

Dick, I used a 703 on a prop 50 yam, piece of cake to set up.

For the reverse gate, its just the monster cable. Make sure to fix it to the motor for those mishap days (breaking ice, backing into trees, idiots at the launch, etc).

The throw is ideally adjusted at the gate, as the shifting arms in the 703 itself are fixed length.
