Go phone a mercury dealer and ask !!!
Buy a plastic jug with all the markings on the side so you get the right amount of oil for the quantity of fuel you have and mix your own .

Mercury recommends QuickSilver brand if you care to pay a premium price.
That said, any two stroke oil is OK as long as it is TC-W3 rated. The mix ratio should be 50:1

Modern outboards usually have variable oil injection. The oil has to be rated for extra lean mixture. The cheap oil will not work right. Syntethic oils are superior and the best choice.

The best oil for 2 strokes that I know of is (opinion) Bel Ray MC-1+. It clings to pistons so well that at first glance one could believe the piston has been scored while wiewing the piston through the exhaust port. But it's just the large amount of oil that clings to the parts. It looks like scoring but it's really the texture of the fluid (oil) after it has slid between the piston and the cylinder wall, a bit like paint brush strokes on thick paint. It has been said the best lubrication is achieved w the most viscus oil and MC-1+ is so viscus it states on the container to not use the product w oil injection systems .. it will not flow well enough .. too viscus. Also the MC1 dosn't mix as readily w fuel as dino oil. I've found one needs to mix w a gallon or so in the can and swirl vigorously to mix it well but once mixed it stays mixed. As anyone could guess MC1 is a 100% synthetic lubricant and about $60. a gallon. While running 2 stroke engines on ultralights at full climb (wide open throttle) for considerable lengths of time at cyl head temperatures above 400 degrees there's nothing like it. OR .. if you want to store a 2 stroke for several months without the usual problems associated w dino oils .. Iv'e had zero storage problems using it. THAT .. my friends is the best 2 stroke oil but not perfect or even suitable for outboards. The best everyday lube for 2 stroke OBs could be Evinrude's 100-1 blend oil for their "E-tec's" run at 50-1. They use it for break-in lube on the E-tecs and I will use it at 50-1 instead of switching to 100-1.

Gonzo, Where doe's one find out if oil is rated for "extra lean mixture" and what is "cheap oil"? An example? I agree synthetics are better but water cooled 2 strokes don't get hot enough to need syn lube .. in my pninion.

However Gonzo, I happen to know that Kenrahe has a small 9.9hp Mercury and any TC-W3 rated two stroke oil would be great for that little motor.
If we talk big EFI, TLDI, E-TEC etc modren engines, then someone can take your advice to heart..
