problems with reverse on johnson 89 200 gt

Hi,
I am new to boating. I just picked up a 1990 19' procraft fish and ski with a johnson 200 gt ob. It has been running fine. I took it to a shop to get it checked on and it had good compression. So I asked him to give it a tune-up.

On the last 3 times since I got the boat back from the mechanic when I get in the water and try to go in reverse it shutters like I am hitting something under the water. It is really hard shutters. But if I go into neutral and go into forward it runs fine. Only time I ever use reverse is loading the boat so that is when I notice the problem.

I took the boat into the middle of the lake and put her into reverse and it shutters too. Does anybody know what could be going on with the motor.

Thanks..

It is either a worn clutch dog or the shifter is not adjusted properly and the reverse doesn't engage fully.
