Old Outboard Motors

As a collector of old outboard motors I would be interested in seeing images of very old outboards that people have at home.My oldest was 1925 Johnson.These old outboard were all given to me by people who new that I was interested in saving them from the scrap dealers.

I also have a "stash' of old outboards; I collect
old outboards dating from before WW II, some
dating back to 1918.

And I have a "bunch" of 1950's outboards, which are
what I actually use to go boating with; cheap to
buy, easy to work on. But not very fuel efficient.

Thanks,I would appreciate any websites and links.My favourite outboard that I use is a 60`s Anzani,ELECTROMATIC all electric start etc., as my armstrong starter is not what it used to be.Old outboards here have little commercial value unless they are very mint condition.I am trying to digatise some old photos as a record for myself.New spare parts are to expensive here so some old outboards are not repaired to running order.

An "old" outboard around here is 10 years young. The brine we float around in eats 'em up. I was tickled today to hang a 1977 Evinrude 115 that came from the lake, looks like brand new, but is now doomed to corrode to death in the salt on a shallow water boat.

Yea, saltwater is a real outboard killer.

Back in the '30s, many outboards were available in
both standard and also "saltwater" versions. The
saltwater versions generally had bronze lower units.

I have a few of the bronze lower unit versions; they
do not appear to have ever been in saltwater, which
is why they survived. They do polish-up nice.

I understand that there are guys out there making a
buck by buying used outboards in "freshwater" areas
of the country and reselling them in saltwater areas where
decent used outboards are rare.

Conversly, I have also heard of guys who buy used
saltwater outboards cheap, repaint them, and then
resell them in freshwater areas to people who have no
concept of saltwater.

Might all be the same guys.

Some old outboard motors,photo prints clearer.From left is a 5 hp Anzani 1960.A seamist green battery ignition Johnson.A small twin Johnson with a funny carb.A 5 hp Penta (behind).A weedless angle shaft Evinrude.A Champion sweet-sixteen auto forward and reverse (twist throttle).small red and white cowl is a local make.Mercury is one of the first through the prop exhaust,very classic design.green one I dont remember at the moment,had so many.Blue one behind is a Magnatwin Anzani,electric battery start and turning the key to the left the motor goes backward,to the right it goes forward and has an alternator-starter (no ring gear) and has anm electric solenoid lock for reverse.The Evinrude is a beaut early Fastwin.Big motor on the stand is a Penta 10-12 120b and has no water pump and is very dangerous to start.It has duel rotation and forward and reverse by lifting the handle.many early outboard had a lot of inovative ideas.
