Just an anecdote. Back in 1985 or 86 I was working on a Coast Guard project and had to go to the Mercury Marine Racing facility in Oshkosh Wisconsin. As a courtesy we got a tour of the place. In the engine shop they had a rack with 9 or 10 engines sitting on it. On the cowl of every engine it said 140. Only one was a 140. they were all the same block, but with different components, the most powerful was 200hp.
