| Mercury 40 4hp Helo, I have a 12' starcraft I have modified for a 1-2 person fishing boat. It has a mercury 40 4hp motor on it & I am wondering if it is possible to get my motor to run at a slower speed. I am currently trolling at 3.4 mph and would like to get down to 1 mph, is this possible? |

| might be easier to just drag a sea anchor. I have seen several DIY models, a 10-12" 2x8 with eye bolts on each end and a simple bridle attached to the stern. The wood floats so if you need to stop to reel in a fish the bridle has less of a chance of fowling the prop. You can adjust the length or add a second as necessary to get the speed you need. | revs should be about 750 ....you could try a finer pitch prop but yes 4 mph does seem fast ..was that down stream ?? GPS shows speed over the river bed. 1 mph yes get a Minn Kota Electric outboard |
