Johnson J30rlsre

Do these outboards come with the silencer that fits over the carb?
I have looked on the BRP website with spare part numbers and diagrams and cannot find it.
I have an opportunity to buy one and noticed the carb was open.
Thanks.

I learned today that from about 1998, Johnson stopped fitting silencers to the carbs on their 2 stroke outboards.

My '94 Johnson J30 doesn't have a silencer on the carb either, although it does have the bolt holes to add one. I have heard that mice liked to nest in the front-end airbox during the winter; that may have been a factor in BRP's decision to remove it (plus, I'm not sure how much benefit it would be on this engine).

Thanks marshmat.
Do you think a silencer would be restrictive on a small hp outboard?
I started this motor with the cover off and was surprised how quiet it was at a cold idle.
I also loved the ease of electric start, what a luxury!

On my old Suzuki 15 there was no discernible difference in power or speed whether the silencer was fitted or not. And the thing also made next to no difference in noise level. I wouldn't be surprised to find the same results with the Johnson.

i haven't seen an airbox on a 25 or 30 for sometime
marshmats '94 is still an omc made engine without an airbox
but as far as other two-strokes of differant horsepower there is still airboxes

My 1982 Suzuki DT25 has an airbox, as did my old 18hp Tohatsu.
I panicked a bit when i saw it "missing"
