8hp + 4m boat

    Hi all
    I am making this boat at the moment

    I have an 8hp 1990 Mariner 2 stroke long shaft outboard. Would love to hear some tips about getting the most from the combo in regards to getting the boat on the plane with one passenger on board

    I checked and the pistons and crankshaft and they appear to be the same part numbers as the 9.9hp. Has anyone done an upgrade on the 8?

    Will adding wings to the cav plate help?

    Do I even need to worry?

    Thing is the boat is in Fiji and I am going to Australia for a few days so if I can buys upgrades while there

    Keep the boat lightweight and weight centered. Long tiller extension...gas tank amidships or forward.

    A heavy stern will drag your speed down
