| It sounds like the "Ing 1" post on the back of your ignition switch has taken a dump. Check connections and if secure, the switch should be suspect. |

| Limpdivits, you shouldn't change parts unless you know they're bad. The next thing I would have done, is hot wire the wires at the back of the switch, to see if it was the actual switch or something further down stream, which it now appears to be. This simply means I would have put a jumper from the BAT terminal to the ING 1 terminal and then tried to start it again. If it worked, then you know it's the switch or the connection at the switch, if it didn't, you need to continue the search. Do you have a repair manual for your engine and the controls? |

| this is an outboard yes?? Therefore doesn't require power to the ignition you can pull the loom plug out and pull start it Use the manual choke and also use the manual choke to stop it

| A 175 HP pull start? What size rope does this take 3/4" or 7/8"? |

| The secret of starting a v6 is you only put the rope half way around so when you pull it ( using a lumberjack) it has the chance of firing 3 times. Pull starting the older cross flows was certainly do-able, did it many times to show it could be done. ( steal Dad's boat when he didnt give you the key....) Just like engines to 15hp where you could start them just by spinning the flywheel by hand ( after its warmed up though) My old boss made us do after we fixed an engine or else keep fixing EDIT crank it till it fires then disconnect the loom plug , when in the water and stop it with the manual choke. That will eliminate engine and its wiring from the boat side.

| Ign is on when off, when off it is grounded. As said if you unplug it becomes live. Although this is true I suspect a power pack failure, there maybe an ign feed when cranking to help starts. With loom unplugged put a 12 volt battery across the starter( non of this hand start macho). Has it 2 power packs or just the one |

| powerabout...YES omc genuine. par... yes I have the manuals. frosty... just one. Is there any way to test the power pack to see if good or not good? I have tried to do some research and someone else also mentioned that it could be the coil packs? Is there any way to test coil packs? I would like to thank all for your help! VERY MUCH!!!! |

| It's unlikely the coil packs wouldn't work in the ING 1 position, but do in the ING 2 (start) position. They either work or they don't. |

| if it stops when you let the key go either the ign switch is faulty or its wired wrong You need to jump start the engine with the loom unplugged to prove it Just put a jumper wire across the starter solenoid or unplug the loom when you say it runs when you crank it.

| The ING 1 wire may be grounding, which will kill it once the spring releases from the ING 2 (start) post. Ditto, the jumper (purple wire?) at the solenoid and yanking the loom plug. |
