1960 ? mercury 300 thunderbolt outboard motor

Well at first I thought this motor i bought for my hydroplane was a 62 then I looked at

It seems to say there was only a 1960 300 thunderbolt is this chart correct?

mine is a 4 cylinder, 300 thunderbolt, short shaft, electric and manual start, no alternator

what year is this?

OK well I need a bit more proof then that no offense but I am not gonna lay the life of this motor on one persons opinion (no offense)

what do you guys think 50:1 TCW3 oil ?

wow OK that was unexpected OK well i can figure it out but I don't trust 1 person enough to risk my motor on I know modern and late 60's outboard use 50:1 but this is 1960 they used 24:1 now in modern terms would that not be more like 35:1 or maybe 40:1

OK here is how it works on my threads I am civil about how I say things don't get pissed because some one one time is skeptical that its that easy if you care so much about your opinion and that no body can have there own qu confirmed don't reply

Your engine is 52 years old, it should be in a museum.

If you intend to run this engine or even start it up you need some advice.

I am not old enough to help. Piston is old enough but hes gone now!!

I appreciate you have certain rules on 'Your threads' so I guess if people want to jump to your tune and work for free within your rule structure you may have to wait a bit.

yes, it should be in a museum but its not and I am gonna run it on my boat like it was designed just sitting in a museum is not how it should spend its days in my opinion this motor is way better that most modern engines especially 4 strokes (in my opinion)

I have already cleaned the engine out before I started it, pistons,carbs, ect. then because it wasn't run in over 5 years I put about 1 oz of 16:1 fuel into it to make sure it would not lock up and 1 oz of that is not enough to foul the spark plugs or the carbs or any thing. I ran it for a few seconds at a time without the lower unit not reving it at all just a idle because I could blow up the motor if it red lined it to long I know. I connected a garden hose to the copper pipe that would normally go to the water pump and I got a good enough seal to force water out of the normal hole and the exhaust in bot the top of the mid section and the bottom it had the same amount of water going thought it that it would normally have. I have only ran it so far for 12 seconds at idle and I have re-cleaned the carbs after putting the 16:1 through the engine now I am using 35:1 with high grade oil. It smokes the perfect amount and sounds great. I still haven't ran it over 12 seconds I think the top carb isn't getting fuel, but along this whole process have been talking to two guys over at a local shop that have restored many motors of this age and older including a kg-7 sitting on the wall that looks factory new they have done this exact model too once before. Due to other motors in there it would tank too long for them to get it to run so I am doing it my self with advise from them.

thats the current news with the engine


I have two rules in my treads that I go by

1: I post civil qu. and or answers and I would like to get it in return.

2: I don't discredit any one but my fist priority here is my engines and boats I may need more then one opinion thats the same to trust a answer because as humans we can make mistakes and I have one chance due to income and other things to make it work so i may need from time to time confirmation that some ones opinion is the way to go.
(so don't be angry at me if I do that and don't waste your time insulting me)
