1953 Evinrude Fleetwin 7.5HP I've replaced lots of things on this motor (coils, condensors, rebuilt carb, lower unit seals, fuel filter, etc.). It is in beautiful condition but does not run right. It starts first pull and idles very well. When I throttle it up, it wants to slowly run away in RPM's like it's going rich to lean then it pops (electrical miss) and goes back to idle at which time it may or may not remain running. I've tried every adjustment on the carb and can't get that to work well. My thoughts are that it's related to the RPM's and the timing as timing is being advanced as the throttle increases. Any ideas on the proper way to adjust that or any other thoughts on what is wrong with this old motor? Thank you for any thoughts or ideas on this.

You deffinately need a book. The book will explain the timing --timed to carb opening. If you look at the carb cam you should see small marks. These line up to the advance arm and at that point should have a certain degree of timing advance.

It could also be plugged high speed jets or a vacuum leak. Might consider a carb rebuild and new gaskets.

Thanks for the advice. I will check these things and follow up later.
