14''6'' Springbok

I just bought a Springbok aluminum boat and need to know what year it is to register it. The only numbers I could find were on a single tag in front of the motor. It says it is a model 1460. #242760 must be the HIN. Its light tan in color with the purple-red-orange markings and the springbok head on the side at the back. It has a flat windshied with flat side windows. I've found pictures of older ones with curved windshieds as new as 1974. Also a newer model (1985) which you can just tell is a newer model. It has a 1983 Mariner 40HP but looks like it had something bigger before so that doesn't really help. Any ideas would be great!!

Thanks to anyone who has an idea: Derek

it is probably an Impala, manufactured in South Africa during the 60's thru to the late 70's.

BTW, a lot of people confuses the Impala antelope with the Springbok.....even some of the local guys here. I cannot recall any Springbok boat produced.

Being in Alberta I would say it's a safe bet it's a Springbok and not an Impala. Springboks are rare outside Canada and parts of the States, but they are absolutely everywhere up here, there isn't a lake in the country without at least one.
The HIN for a Springbok will usually start with the code ZAG or ZCB. This will be followed by either seven or nine numbers indicating the model and serial numbers, followed by two numbers denoting the year of manufacture. The HIN is usually on or near the upper starboard corner of the transom; it may also appear on the capacity plate, which on your boat should be somewhere near the motor mount.
If the boat was Canadian-owned when you got it and has a 40 hp, it should already have a registration number on the bow. If it doesn't, the previous owner was operating it illegally- no problem for you, but it just makes it a bit harder to find out exactly what it is.

Thanks so far guys. I just realized I posted in the wrong section opps. sorry.
Its a Springbok, has the decals on it. The tag is just ahead of the transom on the starboard side facing up. The tag is silver and blue with stamped numbers. It starts with No. 242760, below that it says maximum load 1205 lbs. On the right side of the tag says Builder ALUM. GOODS. Below that it says Model 1460. This is the only tag on the whole thing exept for the tag beside the remote, it only says that this vessel meets transportation canada guidlines. There is no tag with builder codes of any kind. Oh well got it registered now anyway.. Happy fish'n to all!!
