Transatlantic records Hi, Excuse the newbie...I've done a forum search, and found some info, but I'm looking for a bit more. First, is there a sanctioning body, that governs transatlantic records, for non-sailing craft? ie gasoline, or diesel powered. What I'm looking for is a multi-hull, powered, transatlantic record, assuming they have various classes. All I've really found for powered craft, is the Blue Ribband trophy, and that seems more 'ship' oriented. Thanks,

Hi Gunman, welcome to these forums! Yes, it seems there's only the Blue Riband trophy, but I think it's for all kind of power vessels. At least Richard Branson applied for it (I do not know if he succeeded) See http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/d...00/2520929.stm Cheers.

Thanks Guillermo. The boat a customer and I have been discussing would be a smaller pleasure craft, similar in scope to the one in the article...I guess the Blue Ribband would be out of the question then, since it's not commercial. I'm surprised there aren't other records for powered boats, like there are for sailing.

the last couple of attempts on the Blue Riband were by High speed motor boats Gestry Eagle and Richard Bransons boat! Both of them were not actually commercial passenger vessels, to get over this two people were actually carried who did not have anything to do with the running of the boat (pressmen!) who 'paid' for their passage (something like a dollar I believe) thus for the record the boat was carrying passengers! Stretching it a bit bit the record keepers were happy, so! that's all from memory so may not be completely accurate but is close to it! Mike
