like crazy. The loose piece you see in the picture is the repair
tape that is the same material and is even stickier than the
carpet tape. I used it to reinforce the seams and where the
eyelets will be. This is my first sail from this stuff, and I
had no helper. Some one to help would be a big plus. I
had a little trouble keeping the rope from getting stuck
to the tape.
I took a little tuck here and there, and it looks like it will
have plenty of body. The luff and foot have 2" of roach
and the leach has 4". I am going to try it with out battens,
can add them later if needed.

Finish it up today and maybe I can run it up tomorrow
and see how it looks.

BTW, the material is about $1.50 a running foot and is
14' wide. It is 4.5oz. It also comes in a 10 10 weave that
is 5.5oz, I used the 7 7 weave, it is a bit cheaper as well.
The flash from the camera make it look denser than it
really is, it is about 50% Transparent. UV resistant and
blocks IR about 80%

The plans call for 65sf of sail, but the design weight of
the hull is 300lbs, my hull weights under 200lbs, so I
went with a shorter mast and 50sf of sail. If the boat
handles OK, I will add a gunter and the other 15sf of
sail.

It is sort of a modified leg of mutton rig as it is.

The company that makes this material is just three
miles down the road from my house, they also make
covers for sport fields, baseball, football, and so
on. Covers for dump trucks and liners for land fills.

Make a new post for this.

Here is a picture without the flash, that is a piece of copy
paper with a black dot under the sail.

Here is the completed sail. I tried a roller, but found a soft
rag better for pressing out the seams. Seemed to do better
and was much quicker and easier on the hands.
Again without the flash on the camera.

BTW, I have florescent lights and it give the material that funny yellow
green look, it is translucent white, very pleasing color. Kind of high tech
looking.

Another new post!

It is trying to rain, but I had to do it.

The pocket is a little far back and a little
high, but this ain't no racing boat. When it
caught a little air the shape was good, no
wrinkles to speak of. It goes up the mast
very easily, move it up and down and the
lacing tighten up fine.

Looks pretty good. I must see if I can get that material, there is a farm supply store nearby should have it. I am planning a LOM sail too, with a double-wishbone sprit carried higher than your's, so I should be able to cut it flat. I want to try a double thickness sail so I can open it up to double the area downwind. The wishbone is in 2 pieces, hinged to permit that. I like to experiment.

Well, I have spent two days doing all the little crap you
forget. Scraping paint off the bright work and touching
up, stop for the tiller. Shortened the fore stay.
Went looking for some nice letters and numbers, all they
have is the black stick ons...

Looking for some gold or brass colored. Found some real
brass, $7 each, I need sixteen. Out of budget.

Still need to make a sail bag.

Tomorrow I will try to get the mast up and all the stays
adjusted. And maybe some pictures.

I am making an anchor with a plastic can and concrete.
I made one, with some old concrete I had, still powder,
no lumps, but it did not set, waited a week and it was
still soft. Could poke an awl right through it. Dumped it
and went to Lowes and got a ten pound bag and did it
over, it set in about three hours this time.
I left enough space at the top for the line to lay in the
can I hope. Our lake has a mud bottom for the most
part and fifty feet is more than enough line. There are
places where it is near two hundred feet ten feet from the
shore.

I am sure I have forgotten something, planning on a
launch next week???

This could drive a man to drink!!!

This company might help you with number decals. They offer all colors. Hope it helps you. I am going to use decals with a coat or two of clear varnish over.http://www.isitfast.com/nascar_drive...ers_decals.htm

Great Job! I enjoyed all the posts and funny comments! About 20 years ago I built an 11'6" Flat Iron Skiff from plans offered by Mystic Seaport Museum, in Mystic, CT. On launching day I was so proud of the boat I had built it still is hard to describe the joy I felt that day, I will never forget it! Thanks for sharing!

Maiden Voyage of Unnecessary Complications!

Almost no wind. Every thing went perfect. No "Complications"!

Rig went up and down like a dream.

Sailed for nearly three hours and maybe went a mile??

Had a little company as well. The boys had just got the cat and
had some trouble getting it rigged, helped them get going.

"Scenery" was very nice.

No video. Maybe when there is some wind.

Finally ! I am really impressed. And a mile in three hours on the maiden voyage, that's about what I did the first time I went sailing in a whole day.

I see only one cat and she looks topless to me. You have a mono and not a cat with troubles

Oh ok, now I see the other cat as well

A great project if a little slow in the fitting out. If nothing else it shows where the effort goes. The hull is but a small part of the overall job.

The stern is a bit beamy for my liking. I prefer long and slender. Not short and dumpy. A view bow on would be welcome.
