If a guy can take a '57 Chevy from Cuba to Key West... I am sure you can build a raft for $75... If you go for the 55 gal steel drums, use a truck inner tube inside (filled up of course) dat ways... if the inside if can get wet, you still stay kinda dry... Good luck...

Comfort and staying dry seem to not be a concern for anyone making a $75 raft.

Have you heard of the beer can regatta? If not you havn't lived!
I don't know what you Northern people do for recreation but if you know enough people who like to drink beer you can build yourself an ocean going design in no time at all.
With enough like minded people you can not only cut costs but have a whale of a time constructing the vessel. I hope this helps,
Also, could you guys give us a ring when it's time to turn up for the next war as we have to wake the Kiwi's so someone can leave the milk mony out. Cheers H.

Well, that guy who did a transpac at 19 years old in a 15 foot dinghy sailed a catamaran transpac made out of beer cans.

If you can talk a local tavern owner in to the loan of a few empty barrels of beer, they would make good flotation, and a few rolls of duct tape to keep them together for an instant raft... Maybe the tavern owner could have his logo put on the sides of the kegs, and he could get cheep advertising...

The $ 1.99 mattresses is great with duct tape to put a bow on and fold up the sides. Reduce the air pressure so the peoples C of G is low and capsizing is difficult. Run tape across the top to hold the sides up. Tape 2 or 3 together inline for least foward resistance. Leave enough room for 2 cold 6 packs. TAPE the 6 paks to the boat.

Bubble gum, bailing wire, and duct tape... With out the military would come to a stand still... That's it... The way to end all wars... Destroy all bubble gum, bailing wire, and duct tape manufacturing facilities in the world... And all the current stock piles...

That's why there is a military standard for chewing gum! Not any old gum will do.

But that just applys to when procurement actually recieves the gum... There never seems to be a standard for when the item is delivered to the poor guy in the field who needs it...

True, but that at least shows that the military IS trying, despite the cuts in pay for combat soldiers...

It was a 1959 Buick. (I'm just trying to keep it from turning into a mythquote)
They later made it again in a 1949 Mercury.

Please keep the politics out of this forum. Any of you smart enough to propose a raft built for $75.00?

If you keep the lids on they should be waterproof.
