building a 20' daysailer

Novice wannabe sailer, re: footwell drain, my plans show it dained to daggerboard thru winch cable hole. Won't you get wet feet under sail, from water pressure thru the daggerboard housing?? Would it not be preferable to drain out thru the transom. What size should the dain be? Thanks for the info!

I've seen them work OK. However, an important consideration is the volume of your cockpit compared to the drain hole size. For a bit of rainwater or spray, the hole may be enough. In case of rough weather and shipping green water, it may put you in danger.
