Small chart plotter/VHF/AIS without breaking the bank.

I am rebuilding a 21' Sylvan for cruising inland lakes and would like to equip it with GSP & VHF. I see Standard Horizon make an integrated (or integrable) system and I assume others do as well. I don't want a BIG screen and I want to keep the price as far under $1,000 as possible (the boat will suck up the rest!)

What are your recommendations for an integrated communication/navigation system on a budget?
