Is it possible to mount a automotive type relay on a DIN rail?

Of course...din rails are versatile and pre drilled for mechanically fastened , thru bolted, components. Be sure to space your rails off the board to allow room for the relay feet fastener nuts.

Naturally the relay and it wiring must be of the appropriate physical size to mount on the rail

What i was hoping for was to be able to get a relay mount to mount on DIN rail and plug a automotive relay into.

I am not familar with that...google it to see what hardware is available . I have always simply thru bolted relays to the rail or purchased standard DIN mount relays.

I have been searching for awhile but have been unable to find anything, so im thinking of going for DIN mounted relays as you said, but having trouble selecting suitable units as there are so may. I am looking for ones to control nav instruments, lights, pumps ect on a large RIB.
Any thoughts on some suitable units?

I would say no, I've never seen a din rail in car. I would have thought due to vibration it would ber better to have relays screwed directly to the body.

If you can find industrial relays 12V Omron make one, G2RV-SL700-12VDC it would probably be much cheaper than paying the extra for auto parts.

These relays are only 6.2mm wide so you can mount a lot in a small space.

Just go to your nearest atomotive shop and ask for the ubiquitous Bosch headlamp relay. They are used for tons of stuff and cost about 2 quid.

Nav instrument are normally fused with 1 amp, why would you need a relay. A pump would be only 5A, and be switched with a mercury float sw anyway,---your making hard work out of this.
