Exactly! It needs to roll of the tongue – mouth-to-ear - so the word can be spread! If noone hears about it, what's the use, then?

Too late Pericles "FUGAWE" is already in the commercial market & popular?

I do not know how the "kids" cowboy TV episodic show "F Troop" got away with an indian (American tribe) called 'Fugawe' whit the phrase "Were the Fugawe" being uttered quite frequently (They often seemed to get lost) - at least in the un-censored version put to air here in Australia.

Gees Pericles, They been showing that Ford ad on TV over there? Fords doing something impossible like in straining a long length of fence wire, but to pull a couple of miles of fence over & the farmer saying "Bugger" that is the only thing said but lots of "Ford blue ovals" shown.

It sort of looks neat - does it translate to music?

Ok, the poll has closed and "OpenPilot" has it.

I'll go and look for some web-space somewhere.

Cheers All,

Tim B.

I have requested some space on source-forge. Since this may take some time, I will keep you updated (on this thread) when I get something back.

Cheers,

Tim B.

Ladies and gentlemen, we now have charting!!!! Well bits of charts are displayed, it's not all handled yet, and there is a lot of work to do, but the basis is there.

Cheers All.

Nicely done Tim, May I suggest just posting a link here to your development site in news? : : : http://openpilot.sourceforge.net/News/news.html and putting the "news" there - That way, you are promoting a valuable (& free) service/project at the same time...

I looked at that link, and Winchart Nexus does indeed look pretty slick. And after all the recent buzz about Furuno Net3D I'd really like to be using a 3D charting system. But I don't get much info from the Horizon Mobile website about Winchart Nexus; I don't see any indication it's free (other than a download link, which takes you to a site that doesn't provide a way to download the program that I could see, but does sort of offer to sell you a website... And it's just for Windows. I'd really like to see a Linux charting/monitoring system out that did more than the few I already know about--SeaFarer and Navgator's Mariner both do a nice job of handling raster charters (and other things, especially SeaFarer which does an awesome job on AIS info), but neither work with vector charts and all the rich underlying data they contain. I like Furuno's way of seamless melding raster, vector, and aerial photographs, but it's hard to swallow the pricetag and I'd really like open source so I can add controls if I feel I'd like something different.

Can anybody confirm that Winchart is actually free?

Winchart doesn't look as free as might be expected.

World-wide coverage for ENC Charts (some are not free):
http://www.ic-enc.org/page_coverage_country.asp

OpenPilot already supports GPS via gpsd and web-based AIS data. By the summer I hope to have full NMEA 0183 GPS and AIS (probably rx only) support.

At this stage, features are reasonably easy to add. if you have ideas I'd love to hear them, then we can start a decent feature-list.

Anybody who wants to join the project, see the web-page below.

Cheers All,

Tim B.

Tim,
Long time since I did any programming (1978), so I may be way out of alignment, but are the key modules independant, so that if engine control is desired that module is loaded (or not) as also with Autopilot interface, GPS, winch (anchor & sheet), radio -HF & VHF (met download & security - stolen alert etc), Services (bilge pumps, fuel level/rate of use, litres/N.Mile etc.), and so on so they can be switched off when not in use/needed.?

Broadly, yes. As the project is set up at the moment, there are two widgets one for displaying data on gauges, and one for Chart-based data. The main program then holds these together and will control data flowing between them (or from IO Ports to the widgets).

If a widget exists but is not displayed, then data may still be written into it, but the widget will not be drawn.
