Hydrolic steering

Is it common for a 43 ft sailboat with hydrolic steering (one station only) to require six turns lock to lock or do I have a problem?

I don't know specifically about your hydraulic steering system but three turns lock to lock seems average from what I understand. There is most probably a way to adjust it. I'm assuming it is a wheel pump to a linear piston, if so you can shorten arm on the piston to lessen the lock to lock turns.

6 is perfect and is what would be required for a hydraulic auto pilot.

Pump and cylinders are matched before purchase.

a 1 liter pump and a 6 liter cylinder would need 6 turns to move the cylinder its length, just an example--usually calculated in cc's .

Look up Vetus.
