| electric controls for outboards I'm putting some new Mercury 225 Optimax engines on an old boat, and heard about some new electric controls instead of push pull cables. Anyone have any experience or opinions about these? Any idea of cost for a twin engine, dual station setup?

| I'm not sure about the Optimax's, but the new Verado's have electronic controls. I drove a boat with a pair of 275's the other day (steering is by wire too) and it was fabulous. The controls are smooth, easy to operate, and much easier to make small rev adjustments with.

| I really ain't rich, but the boat is a dual station, so if I replace all 4 dual lever controls and all 4 cables plus I think I need a linkage to be able to hook the dual stations into each motor... if all of this is going to cost me a bunch, then I may opt to go a few more $ and have smoother contol.

Holy sheistenbutyl! Those electronic controls look like they will set me back about seven grand USA money. I think I'll stick with cables and mechanical levers. I've got dual stations, but my boat doesn't have any linkage in it to connect both stations together. My levers that are on the boat are pretty crappy looking but I think they are functional. I don't know what the mechanical linkage will set me back if I replace everything else, but I think I'll save my $ for other things, like gas and beer. ![]()
