| Alternator Question Trying to find replacement alternator - old one is Merc Marine part number 12449 that apparently came with boat. (It's from 1986) Found one online with same part number but it says it's for Volvo-Penta marine engine and my engine is Chevy. Can't find anything with same part number that says it's for Chevy. Can the one for Volvo-Penta be used with Chevy engine? |

| A lot of the Volvo Marine engines were marinized Chevrolet engines. It is very probable that the alternator is interchangealbe. |

| Lots of different brands will fit your GM engine. A good source is: http://www.alternatorparts.com/index.htm

| A Volvo alternator should fit the engine. However, you may need to swap pulleys to make the belt align properly. They had many different offsets.
