Transom Extension on Gemini Cat

We have a Gemini 3000 that I believe is overloaded in the rear. However, I am not willing to give up what we carry. Last summer we checked boat speed in flat water then my wife and I walked to the front of the boat and we picked up almost 2 knots. My cat racing experience says you never want the transom "dragging" so I am assuming that still applies. My transoms must be 8 inches in the water. I can move some weight forward but there's a limit. I have seen on the Seawind 1000 (http://www.scoaa.net/hull066/extension.htm) extensions put on the transom and I am thinking about that. They are sort of sugar scoop extensions with steps which would be nice. Doesn't look that tough to do with the boat out of the water but what result will I have? The Seawind folks like it. Comments?

You might want to talk to Mike Conley. He recently added stern extensions and plumbed the bows on a Macalpine-Downie Iriquois. It was an amazing project!
