| There is a really funny/tragic story about some blokes creating a mono-cat by accident, on a thread over on the Wooden Boat Forum titled "Naval architects and designers are a waste of money!" A bit tangential to this one, but if you start at the start - allow an hour to pick the eyes out of the 15 pages - it is a real hoot, in a very sad sort of way.

| I don't watch the S-H race anymore, as its always the same stuff, wild oats, or alpha remao is leading, it has got boring to watch. I do not want to take away the skill and achievement that these crews do year in, year out. So for me to start watching again, the racing would have to be closer over the hole of the fleet. Can't remember who mentioned it, but i though is was a smashing idea. Based on class handicap, is when the class is started and the idea is that every class should cross the line at the same time. So the maxi's will start last and have to run down the fleet to get line honors. So a RL24 could win linehonors if it is sailed well with favourable winds. How chuffed would you be, as the skipper of that RL24 crossing the line first. I know it would give a new life to all the skippers in the fleet, and make very close racing on the TV. |

| DaveJ. You should write that to the Commodore of the CYCA. ![]() |

| They won't do it, as then there would be no big fan fare at the start of the race when the gun goes off or no trophey to first boat out through the heads. Or they could do that for each class, that would be nice. |

| ...alll you sailing experts should know that there are minimum lengths for the yachts.....from the Notice of Race (26th December 2009) A boat shall: • be single hulled and self righting; • satisfy the stability criteria specified in Appendix A and the additional requirements specified in Appendix B; • be built in accordance with the Special Regulations Part 1, Section 3.03.1; • have an overall length (LOA) not more than 30.48 metres and not less than 9.0 metres and a waterline length (LWL) not less than 7.3 metres; • comply with Special Regulations Part 1 for Race Category 1; and • have a crew that satisfies the requirements of NoR 3.2. ....it is all quite simple really, if you do not meet those crireria, you are " not in the race"......if you want to go play with your multihulls, do, so, enjoy, but stop the bloody winging......

| "winging" - that'd be foils then! Oooh - that could put another cat among the pigeions! ;-) Sorry for slightly frivolous reply - bit of (attempted) comic relief after the whaling...
