Hi Red Reuben,

Im actually trying to gt a bit of history of the "shockwave" but the net is pretty thin on it. Do you happen to have any photos of Le Seurs cat? Is your comments regarding "1 metre longer" because you know that Mai Tai had an extension for the "rear steps" added a couple of years back?

BTW Im also going to ditch the wheel steering and put it back to tiller. Ive got the timber to bend up a pair of laminated tillers, and will remove the pimple in the centre of the hard deck. Decided to do this after its in the water, as Im itching (literally as the boat is in a mangrove yard!) to get it in the water and sail it!

Also does anyone have a template for the Lock Crowther insignia that I can get made up in vinyl and stick on the bows.

Oh and thanks for the "luck" Doug... :-)

Close off this chapter of hte story

Got to be happy Mai Tai is back in the briney (for 3 months now) and behaving. So a nice sunset to close off the thread :-)

BTW never had a 2 hour run before where I NEVER saw 8 knots......got to love the sea breeze and just forward of the beam reach for 20 miles :-). And more importantly "her indoors" likes it!

skua

I once sailed on a skockwave 37 called skua. It was built here in Townsville in the late 70's I think. It was built out of Kevlar & airex foam. It did race for a while then I believe it went to Brisbane.

Hi Thorpeboat - Skua was my dad, Ken Griffiths' boat. He built her from scratch in our back yard and went on to win line honours in many races. I still have all the clippings, specs, photos etc from thios days, so if you want a wander down memory lane send me an email and i"ll link you into the albumn.

I'm totally my dad's girl and am now hunting for my dream cat.

Hey guys - unfortunately dad's passed away. In his memory i scanned most of the clippings etc and put them up in a facebook album so friends and family could share - it has a photo of the original crew as well. I'll pop the link up tonight when i get home from work.

I also have an original Denis Hardy painting of Skua full flight around Magnetic Island. Denis was great friends with dad, and did the painting as a gift for the times they had on Skua. Let me know if you want me to add a picture of this to the album.

My partner and i are looking at buying another crowther cat as a liveaboard - the apple never falls far from the tree!

Bella x

G'day cobber, as in Brett. Let's hope Bella has the time to post pics. WOW, as Gary said & I will also say. At least 10 times PLEASE DO!!!! Post pics!!!

Now - Hello Bella - much more than welcome. I had a lot of time with Locki & Beryl & the 'little' kids - so that will time date the beginning of our friendship. Raced 'A', 'B' & 'C' class with & against Locki & sailed with Bill Hollier on 'C' class Red Roo - back & forth to Sorrento, Vic to tune-up against the Cunninghams.

Bella, to both you (& partner) & Gary (K1W1 guy) & also Brett (&) - Do enjoy a great festive season & a fab 2012 & best of all - GO SAILING. Sure hope I can get "my ducks all in a row" this year & get back into the 'sailing life-style'.

Brett, "Mai Tai" looks great in the pic. How did you weather 'Grant'? It's coming our way now - got 110 mm last night - more to come for sure. Were you able to keep the 'midges' & mozies in an organized flight pattern? If you see Warren off the Tennant Dakota - do say hello to him from me. Somehow I lost his # out of my mobile memory - Darn. Was in Darwin - out at Howard Springs from Oct to Dec last year. Did some sailing - on mono's while there but never enough sailing - well not for me anyway. Only to go sailing between work though.
Sure want to get back up there & sail out of Darwin as a home-base. Would really like to do the Darwin to Ambon, if I can get it toghther to 'offer-up' as a crew. Am trying to purchase a 38' x 31' x 1750 kg tri in SE Asia but not got my act together - financially yet - need to sell the farm here in Far North Queensland.

Spent several days in the 'mangrove-yard' looking a multi's in general & what might be available to purchase - oh & talking to people - as yachties are want to do.

Again to you-all - - have a healthy & fab 2012. Ciao for now from Cairns, FNQ (where LeSuer lives & sails) - have a great New Years eve & a few 'sundowners' - james

Hi James et al

Mai Tai is sitting in the "Mangrove Yard" (more commonly known as Manta....... but I call it Midgie haven), and getting a few things sorted before being dropped back in the briney in Late Feb I guess. Cyclone Grant made our Christmas as it sucked all the bad weather out of Darwin and we had a fabulous day!

Im hoping to do the Darwin-Dili race this year on Mai Tai - crewed on a Catana (Crowther), Cattitude, in the last 2 years so time to do it under my own banner :-).

Bella please dont forget the Facebook reference, waiting with baited breath to see your Dad's legacy! Good luck with the search.

Cheers and Hope the New year was/is good to all.
