salt incrusted bolts?

I'm trying to take everything off the back of my searunner 25 so I can convert it to a rear cockpit.

Any tricks to freeing salt incrusted bolts?

thanks

Hot and cold water in turns so the bolt temp varies as much as possible. If you have steam even better..

Use an impact screw driver.

Tongs and a piece of dry ice may help.

Thanks,

I got most of them free, broke some and the others I can do latter. Had to drill one out, that sucked.

Interesting ideas, I have the main sheet traveler and its mounting braket frozen solid. It will make a good test project.

Thanks again

Hot and cold plus patience is about all you can do.
If there is alloy involved, there are complex Al salts that do not dissolve in water at all. In that case only a blowtorch will help.

PB Blaster

PB Blaster is the absolutely best product for freeing threaded fasteners of any kind. Spray some on, hit it with a hammer, wait awhile, and try to back it out. Repeat if necessary.

Here in South Florida any marine mechanic thats been on the job more than a week has a can of the stuff in his toolbox.
