| paddle for an outrigger canoe Does anyone know of plans, or can anyone offer guidance, for making wooden paddles and steering paddles for an OC? General dimensions I gather are: about a 9 inch wide blade about 10 degree angle for the paddles, 5 degrees for the steering paddle length in relation to seated body height? I'm guessing height from nose to waterline is a good length for the loom on most canoe paddles, is this a good guide for OC's? most blades are wood with glass or carbon, or just solid wood, what types of wood should be used? What thickness? (I'm thinking 1/4 inch WRC with 4 oz glass on the power side for the blade, not sure if WRC is strong enough for the loom) Thanks! |

| I let google do it's thing and there's some good stuff out there. For pure steering, I think I would prefer the holopuni paddles. Build them strong! http://gillespiepaddles.com/shop/steering_paddles.php http://www.foxworxpaddle.com/outrigger_paddles.html http://www.holopunicanoes.com/paddles.html Dan |
