Gary, what do you think the update would weigh?

    Demon Tricycle bis

I increased the length and beam to 7.8 metres but you can see that really there is not much boat there, small floats, skinny main hull - therefore minimal amount of materials required and that equates into a light boat. I'm just guessing at this stage but I would be unhappy if the complete boat weighed more than 225-250kgs. Warning: some people will be outraged with this figure - and maybe I'm being a little optimistic - but that's what I would aim for.

Gary, WOW - the DT bis you've drawn looks pretty damn cool.

    Details

Gary, Flash Harry sort of looks like the prototype, so DT2 is not just speculation? How much of it could be built in ply, and what size of rig? Does the crew need to be able to out farther aft than the wide cockpit wings allow? I have only sailed on a little 16' tri foiler so my experience is very limited, but the speed was really fun.

    Dt2

DT2 is a more refined micro-multi Flash Harry, (which was a demountable design by the way) but yes, the concept is the same. I was thinking of the hull and small floats being 4mm light ply with glass plus uni-dirctional carbon in reinforced areas - approx weight 100 kgs. The wing beam would be 8mm strip planked paulownia with glass/carbon, weight 50 kgs. 10 metre wing mast in tensioned 3 mm ply with 4mm frames and I beam - 50 kgs. I believe these weights would actually be lower - but being conservative, you know me.
The crew could lie on the wing but helming would be from the cockpit (changed my mind there) - I'm relying on those efficient foils doing their job and I'm sure they will.

    Windage

When a light boat with a wing mast like Flash Harry is on a mooring, do you have any problems with it blowing over?

Spoke with Dave last night, and most of the plans for Demon Tricycle are in his head as they were when he built it, but he has recently built a scale modle of it, and has a head full of ideas on how to improve the original, he is also happy to talk to anyone that wants to know more, flick me an e-mail on craig@verde.co.nz and i can pass on the details

How do you think a demon tri would stack up against a Val? I'm thinking of the design without the solid wings.
