    Rolex Middle Sea Race

Looks like its a lot tighter between Phaedo 3 and Maserati with Maserati possibly slightly ahead and as of this post much faster 11.2 knots vs 1.4 for Phaedo. Unless there is something wrong with the info.

UPDATE-11:39 EST-Phaedo way ahead and faster.....

UPDATE- 6:09pm EST -Maserati has caught up but Phaedo is going 4 knots faster right now.

This happened earlier but I think Phaedo is back out in front:

Looks like Phaedo is out in front again BUT: according to the course map above she is rounding the wrong island! The map shows the course around the bigger of two islands.......

UPDATE: Maserati is going to the bigger island like the course map shows-Phaedo rounded the small island and is headed home -one of them is very wrong and I think it is Phaedo.

Click on Phaedo under the boat list and it will show her course on the tracker map. It clearly shows her rounding the wrong island-at least according to the course map.

Lampedusa is the big island-unless the course map is wrong Phaedo is in trouble:

Yes, Phaedo is in trouble. They had to turn back towards Lampedusa in order to get on the right course. This incredible error has added approxim. 100-120 NM to their track.

Maybe it's another level of zoom mistake like the Vestas reef collision. Another thought is that maybe they set their waypoints and screwed up with their placement. They will be double and triple checking their course from now on that's for sure.

    Maserati-Transat Race

To get ready for the transatlantic race ,Maserati will have the port "L"* foil installed that will allow them to foil on stb tack only. They aren't going to install a new rudder T foil on the stb ama before that race so they can't use the stb "L" foil*. I think they will continue to use the lifting main foil which has adjustable AOI including the capability to develop downforce.

    * "L" foil works like an uptip foil when immersed due to the angle of the ama trunk.

Maserati on port tack-she will only be able to foil on stb tack for the transatlantic race:

    Maserati with Fire Arrow Configuration

Gio Soldini explains the "Manta" foil on Maserati. The basics are the same as the Fire Arrow except that they move the whole foil whereas the Fire Arrow Foil System uses a wand to move a flap on the main foil.
Their next ocean race: Gear, sails, appendages – everything has been checked and rechecked aboard Maserati Multi70 for the first ocean race of the 2016/17 season. The now-imminent RORC Transatlantic Race casts off on Saturday, November 26 from Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.
