| need help for quick & dirty tri: which design for P19 rig/hulls? hello, I have a Prindle 19 cat. Now I want to build a trimaran out of it and use the rig (23 sqm upwind) and the hulls of the P19 - if possible use also the rudders. Which design can you recommend for the main hull + beams? Most important for me: fast & easy to build (dory hull, flat ply panels) Should be demountable for trailering. Daysailer for 4 people. No cabin needed, nice looking totally unimportant. Quick & dirty approach. Any idea which design I could use? Its my first building project. Just want shortest time from garage to water, and gain first experience with ply/epoxy boat building method. Any ideas? thx! Fritze |

With Strike 18 the amas would be one foot longer than the main hull. Normally 16' cats can be used for the Strike 18. Just wrote an email to Richard Woods. Am looking forward to his opinion. |

If you want to do it quick and dirty, try your own design with Delftship http://www.essential-freebies.de/boa...3257&view=next. Viel Glück! One of my trimarans I have built with a main hull from a float of a DRAGONFLY 800 (over 7m long floats) which had been capsized and holed from rescue. Worked very well and went together easy. Give Jens Quorning from Quorning boats in Skaerbaek/Denmark a call whether he has holed hulls (Schrottrümpfe). Nice people. ![]() If you would like to design your own hull here is a "how to" description in german language: http://www.rg65.de/pmwiki/pmwiki.php...sVonJensSpamer Quick an simple building of a vaka: http://www.diy-tris.com/5-tandemtri.htm |

| I owned a P19 for 20 years and I can tell you from experience that the hulls are really too fragile to be considered for this application. Use something thicker and heaver built, please! Jimbo |

| build it light I was a dealer for P-19s, and while I think you can use the hulls and rig, it MUST be kept light. My more aggressive sailing customers regularly broke parts of their 19s- the masts and hulls were ok, but everything else broke, I still have broken parts from them in my basement . They loved their boats, but I had to fix them. Use a light center hull with as little rocker as you can find to take advantage of the speed, and it should be a lot of fun. B |
