My 28' Power Trimaran Hi there, here are some vids of my power tri I have been sea trialling.. Stats are: 28' Loa 8' Beam 6" Draft 50 Hp short shaft Tohatsu 2 Stroke outboard gets 30 knots. I have a 60L Ballast tank well forward in the boat, but it is not yet plumbed in in these Vids. I have carried 5 adults with little compromise to ride/speed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GySfUoiY4vo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fu0puXJvrfY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76OzaMIdq24 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euB0ZhTJATM

Very impressive! How does the boat do in bigger waves? Seems like an excellent design....

Hi there, the boat has handled 5' waves with ease and at speed. It is my own design I'm developing. I will hopefully have a set of plans available soon. I can also be emailed directly at playful.captain@gmail.com. Pics are also at www.flickr.com/photos/fluidformations

| X Factor I'm curious about how you decided on the overall beam for the boat-what were your major consideration?

Hi Doug, I wanted to keep it around the 8' overall mark so i could legally tow it on a trailer where I live. This meant I could not make it as wide as I would have liked though. But I optimised the design with the armas, so that at its optimum speed (around 18 knots) the armas actually surf on the bow wave of the main hull, hence they have a flat bottom similar to a surfboard. It all seems to be working very well. The hulls have a 15:1 L/B ratio. they are all proportional. Gerrard

sea handling Very interesting boat indeed. Any chance you can post a video or pics of the boat in 5' seas? Have you noticed the stern squating coming up to speed? I am particularly interested in how she handles a quartering sea, this seems to be a point of concern for power-trimarans in other threads... Nice job!

G'day Headharbour, Thank you! When conditions permit I will definitely get images/vids of her in decent waves. There is some squatting in the stern, I attribute this to the slight rocker I put at the back of the boat, I'm putting a foil on in my next run to try and correct this, but will see what happens and keep you posted.. In quarter seas, she seems quite healthy, keeps track and goes strong, I think having the armas 'elevated' and surfing helps this. When I crewed on Earthrace, I remember being in a quarter sea was quite a awkward/weird motion and I have tried to overcome this with this boat. G

Hi soffi, I used a polypropylene honeycomb composite material called polycore. Check out my website, www.fluidformations.com and specifically http://www.fluidformations.com/Fluid.../The_boat.html The boat could be just as easily built out of any flat panel material such as ply. Will post pics of her up and coming little sister soon, with a 70hp Jetski engine and pump in it! Cheers.
