| Multiplast does a Performance Cruiser? First post. Just back from Annapolis to look at all the fat, heavy Condo-Marans and thinking: for the large J$CK involved: What would a hot Cruiser look like if done by VPLP or MULTIPLAST? not a one off...a production boat. NOT: Lightspeed NOT: SIG 45 NOT: GUNBOAT 48 NOT: Lagoon (which is VPLP anyway) or Outremere Is there a market for a 60-80 footer to sail fast with a few comforts? Orma-type rig brought back in the hull to make it fast and stable, larger beam All carbon (yes noisey--use foam core?) Park Avenue style boom Where would you build it? S.A.? Italy? |

| Hard to follow you, do you have an image to post to help me picture this? How about an 80 foot Special Operations boat? http://www.warboats.org/mkv.htm ![]() Quote:

| Kachi: Was there something about the list provided that got you into powerboats with one hull? Reality: Personally, I'd love to see that type of boat out there tooling around. Unfortunately, I don't think there'd be enough potential buyers to justify the design costs and the tooling just yet. The monohull market can suuport boats of this type because there is older money involved and any advantage they can take over their buddies at the yacht club will mean a boat of that type getting sold. The same is not true for the ultra-fast multi market at present. I would think that a stripped-out Gunboat 66 could come pretty close to your picture, though, if someone was so inclined. Gunboat says they will soon have an 85 available. I wonder how much you might save if you went for minimum appointments rather than the full palacial treatment? Maybe nothing due to fixed tooling setups at the yard. |

I was only guessing at what "Reality Fluno" meant. I suppose being in the multi-hull section would mean he was going on about multi-hulls. Like I said, I just can't guess that well, just using pictures to help lead a conversation. 80 foot long multi-hulls that I know about have sails on them, don't know why that is exactly. |

| what is it about: >> Is there a market for a 60-80 footer to sail fast with a few comforts? Orma-type rig brought back in the hull to make it fast and stable, larger beam All carbon (yes noisey--use foam core?) Park Avenue style boom >> that has anything to do with powerboats? |

| You are right about the market. But GB seems to be building 3 more of the 48s now. One wonders if it could be done nice enough but minimal still and a little cheaper. ie: Larger MaineCat with accoutrements and proper salon. |

That means sail? Sorry, I just don't know all these cryptic sailor terms. I actually thought Engish was a second language for you, or you were really drunk when you wrote your first post. ![]() Maybe it was the New Jersey accent that threw me, I don't know. |

| YES: Someone speaking my language. I only saw that Broadblue was offering an aft-rig at Annapolis last weekend. OK: so now: How about: Retractable propeller "pods" to reduce drag? This has been done somewhere. (NO--NOT A POWER BOAT a sailboat) "So what did I come up with? Lets call it a marriage between a cutter and a ketch without the mainsail. The original design was published in Yachting 1974 and in Multihulls 1975. Rudder magazine also made note of it in 1974. It was "A Unique New Cruising Rig", designed to go on a 55' cruising cat I was working on at the time. It didn't get built and neither did the rig. Like a bear, it went into hibernation. " |

And the 'belt' would not necessarily need to be a kevlar one, but could be a 'silent chain' (metal) as utilized by PYI at one time in the very recent past Last edited by brian eiland : 10-11-2006 at 09:45 AM.
