Motorpod designs

What kind of motor pod designs are out there for adding center mount motor to something like a Jarcat J6?

I am also interested in adding a bit of flotational support in the back to give the boat a little more load carrying capacity. What I would really like to do is add a sponsoon that would only be immersed under a max load with the exception of the end where the motor would be as ofcourse that part would always be immersed. Is thus possible?

thanks

Hi Delaney,

I don't know Manie was here once (he's buildig a jarcat) and he mentioned a single outboard in the cabin. I suspect it has a bracket that folds up using sort of a scisors action, similar to attached. Sorry about the out of focus...

You could make the sponsoon above the waterline... maybe make it look like a hull feature.

maybe the answer is to lower the level of the central 'tunnel' so that it's kissing the water in moderate loads, immersed under heavy loads. this is 'free' volume, except that it will be noisier when light.

i can't think why you'd want to, the j6 has a very fat water plane already.

Bill,

When you say the J 6 has a wide motor plane do you mean I should mount the motor on one hull? Otherwise I was under the impression that if I mounted in the center that I would need somekind of motor pod to make it function properly. Is this correct? I was thinking about powering it with a 9.9-15 hp motor and sailing it with a kite sail on the occasions when I want to sail.

Thanks,

Delaney
