I'm seriously thinking of ordering a set of plans , and building a boat [I know ,A massive undertaking].Does anyone have any experience with Shuttleworth.His website and designs are impressive

John worked with me last year to design some new carbon beams for my (not Shuttleworth designed) 43' tri.
I found him very helpful on all aspects of the build. I also think that considering his tremendous reputation his hourly rate is quite reasonable.

We only had cause to stray from his technique once: the beam 'wraps' (+/- 45 bias carbon) were vacuumed down without any problems. John's opinion was that vacuuming carbon wraps on curved beams with 4 corners would lead to rucks and creased in the UDs. He advised to hand-wrap. We did a test 'corner' (full scale) and it came out fine so we vacced the whole lot.

Beams came out exactly 'on weight' but the weight of carbon and resin needed to bond them to the hulls came out much heavier than predicted (built exactly as spec'd).

Highly recommended overall.

Very, very nice design and you cannot go wrong with a person of that caliber.
Don't know if it is still available, but this hull/deck shell could be a jump start for you to get into the water.

As far as I know the Ocean Cheetah deck and hulls is still up for grabs - being sold by Bill at Patrick Boyd Multihulls. Bill runs the PBM brokerage and has been trying to sell that shell for a long time 3? yrs or so. Could be a good deal to be had. Lying South UK.

Bill was going to set up a production line I believe, but there just wasn't enough interest.

The moulds for the "Ocean Cheetah 37" now (that's to say since about four weeks) reside in Cape Town. As far as I know the owner is planning a production run of this design with some modifications. Can try and obtain more information if your interested.

I went aboard the then empty / naked hulls and decks which Bill has/had for sale very shortly after launching back in 2004ish, they offer an amazing space in the aft cabins, normal space in the saloon.

John Shuttleworth is probably one of the best designers of performance cruising catamarans around. His designs normally specify a "minimalistic" approach to e.g. cupboard doors, draws etc. The problem is that the owners often don't follow these reccomendations, and end up with a boat that is too heavy.
The Ocean Cheetah hulls in the UK have come out a bit on the heavy side compared to the designers specs. (as far as I was told about 3 years ago -but if you go that route, ask John what his specs are) Maybe an opportunity to acquire them at a better price, depending on your planned usage? There is a fantastic Shuttleworth 40 for sale in Indonesia - if you are interested I can find the sellers coordinates for you.
I sailed on a Shuttleworth 47 last year, and despite being overloaded by at least 2-3 tons, she still sailed and tacked beautifully, and has sailed from Capetown to Hawai with no problems at all.

the details are what is important ,,it sounds to me like shuttleworth covers all bases,,be advised that a lot of designers dont,,it will bite you in the but if you come to a point ,,like knee joints or a rudder detail, I can only and usually only speak from experiance,that the money spent on prints is just as,, if not more important than the materials,your prints are the foundation of your boat,,,good luck ,,longliner

Sorry, my mistake. The guy is not building a Cheetah. He has bought the moulds, but currently is doing a powerboat .

The moulds was bought by a private entity and not a business
