I think in that video she was flying on the lee foil and planing on the back end of the lee ama. The ORMA(and the MOD 70's) were designed to have the ama foil support 70% of the boats weight. Whether a t-foil at the back end would reduce drag or not is still an open question-(I think it would but a better system might be two foils on the main hull controlling sailing angle and pitch and allowing for a wider platform). I love these videos.... Martin Fischer thinks it would be beneficial: click-

| Thanks Doug, best video of Hydroptere by far! Whow.. that boat behaves so gracefully through/on the waves. Like it a lot.

| On the Sodebo website video page there are some really good videos. I quite enjoyed watching all the big french multis out for a bit of a joyride among the volvo fleet (they look a bit like birds of prey sizing up some juicy dinner) in the Lorient also the video of Ken Read out on Sodebo for a run. http://www.sodebo-voile.com/carnet-medias/videos.html

| Has Adrenalin ventured out much in Auckland? Certainly an interesting and beautifully constructed Formula 40.

| Hardly seen it. I helped deliver it from Okahu Bay to Westhaven last year, no sailing unfortunately, rib lashed underneath instead. Last I heard, after all the talk of butchering the classic tri to make it local legal ( luckily only hot air and gas) was that Arnie Duckworth from West/Ad Tech has bought Adrenalin. He lives in Thailand and also owns the twin masted, unstayed wings, foil cat, foil in a central, movable box. Forgotten its name, well known. |

| Thanks Gary, I'm glad it wasn't butchered as it is an interesting boat in it's own right with a good history.

| "unstayed wings, foil cat, foil in a central, movable box. Forgotten its name, well known." I think that would be "Happy Feet". |

Indeed it would be. HappyFeet uses a "bi-foiler" system similar in foil configuration to a Moth. However, the whole center pod with both foils moves port and stb. This system can allow the boat to fly a hull in lighter air than it would otherwise. Because it has a wand altitude control system, the foil can also add righting moment by pulling down instead of lifting up and it can do both automatically. Very innovative:

| Is there an explanation why Idec/Sodebo don't have full length floats ? Coz I just don't get it at all ? |

To save weight? They don't need the extra buoyancy of a longer hull with the foils. If you can have an excellent L/B ratio in a shorter, lighter ama it may be the way to go.
