Extreme 40s

Gday all

Had a fabulous day at Mrs Macquarie's chair watching the Extreme 40 racing in Sydney. The highlights were many and varied
- watching the first group round the top mark 4 abreast setting gennakers and accelerating to over 20 knots
- not knowing where to look with the action happening everywhere with a 90 degree arc in front of me
-cringing as the cats sped 20 metres off the shore - would they hit a rock? No they didn't but it seemed so close.
- seeing the best sailors in the world compete and not always seem impressive. (If double Tornado Gold winner Roman can make mistakes then we are all allowed to)
- a bit of carnage when Ben Ainslie racing gets hit up the rear and breaks the tiller arms and tillers and gets racing again in 60 minutes.
- spontaneously yelling with delight and excitement - who cares who is listening.
- clapping and cheering like a football hoon at a sailing regatta. Go Tom - He is an Aussie. Go Nathan Wilmot - another Aussie. Go Kyle (even if you trimmed for Oracle). Go Ben after you got ram rodded. Go SAP - your princess is an Aussie too. (I am not usually at all patriotic - I just needed the excuse.

If you live anywhere near Sydney get yourself down to Mrs Mac's chair on Sunday and you will get a thrill you won't ever forget.

I've been watching the X40's on their youtube channel. What a fantastic spot they are sailing with a great view for the general public. I wanted to attend the racing but too much work on this time of year. Here are the video links for anyone who is interested.
