endplates on sails?

Why dont we see endplates used on sails? Especially the more "rigid" types - ie wingsails? Planes and formula 1 have adopted them......

If you try to use the "search" forum tool, you'll see that the issue of endplates has been widely discussed here. A lots of good info can be found, mainly thanks to Tom Speer and Mark Drela.

It was done in the 30s. The J boats had park avenue booms. Also many dinghies have deck sweeping jibs. Some sailboards seemed to go better with the foot near the board.

Any thoughts on using them on crabclaws? Would have to be only on those used angled fwd and not those that are used in variable positions.....

I don't want to appear too harsh or unpolite, it's just that by opening a new thread on a long-chewed stuff you constrain people to waste their time by replying the same things all over again.

I did read those.... and triangular sails were only brought up as fore-sails / jibs or inefficient mains - and yes i did get that they are not effective. But - a crabclaw works differently and had hoped that someone cleverer(sic) than myself might comment?

Sorry if I sounded arrogant. It's just that too often we see the same concepts repeated and recycled, because people don't bother to search the forum before posting.
If you say that this case is different than then the ones discussed in previous threads, then there is no need to delete the post, imho.
Now, let's see if some new knowledge will pour in on this one...

No - seriously - it is/was a stupid idea - once i really thought about it!!!
You guys in the know must sometimes get a giggle from silly idea's tho'? - i do in my occupation. I'm on a steep learning curve - and sometimes should think things through a bit more. I'm sure a few of you pro' also had a few odd idea's early on too?
