I was thinking the same thing PAR. Hacking the site is the only way I can think of addressing the issue yourself.

Oh, but there is. It is a very good one, too.

Unlike China, European website operations should be concerned about copyright infringement like this. Try sending a polite but stern email to hostmaster@strato.de and zonemaster@strato.de and abuse@strato.de State this use of your photograph violates your copyright and is without your authorization and must be removed.

As a data point. I just heard from Chuck Leinweber of Duckworks that Michael Storer did not authorize the plans of his that appear on the Tecpaper website.

Try to contact folks at Glen-L too. Their plans and photos also appear in Tecpaper site. The more renown and respectable people protest and threaten them, the more they (Tecpaper) will be reluctant to carry on with their initial intentions...

What a funny feeling, looking around that site. Kind of like looking at boatdesign.net translated to German. :)
    Anyways, good job Hoyt.

    Thanks, Hoyt!

I have emailed Glen-L and I know that others have contacted some of the other designers featured on the tecpaper site.

You might say something about posting a picture of your son without your permission... that might put a different slant on it too

    Thanks again, Hoyt.

Someone on another forum says he's now contacted 5 of the designers whose plans are listed on the site, and none of them authorized the sale of their plans.

It's beginning to look like a pure scam.

    An update:

The offending site is now offline. I don't know exactly what precipitated this. A dwforum member who lives in France gave the guy a call, threads appeared in German boat-related forums (thanks Hoyt and Manfred!) and many emails were sent.

I've had this sort of problem as a writer. An unscrupulous foreign agent sold many of my stories to markets in Europe and Asia and kept the money, and even though he did the same to many more prominent science fiction writers, we had little practical legal recourse.

I'm content to see the site gone; I don't really care about punishing the guy.

And to everyone else who has offered support and sympathy, thank you all. It's been a surprisingly heart-warming experience, despite my initial annoyance.

    With much gratitude,

    Ray
