Any suggestions on what rig I should use 4 a 5 ft catamaran...it has a side mounted(like the one on roman triremes) kick up rudder...the daggerboard will be mounted between the hulls and will be able to fold out of the way for rowing I just started today but all it needs is a mast , a daggerboard and a sail any suggestions on the rig type?

A lug sail will require a short mast and it is really easy to rig. With a cat you don't need a boom either. It will all roll together, which you can put on the side when rowing or storing.

I've got 2 11' rowing cats and I wouldn't put a hankerchief up as a sail. I really don't see any purpose for a 5' rowing cat except converting it to carry a cooler with beer for a float trip on innertubes. I hope you are not planning to lean forward and aft as you row. You might learn the practical meaning of pitchpole. Are you trying to make some kind of record?

5' is about the size to put a little sail and let it go down the street in a big rain storm.

Sorry I had to let it out.

There are idiots everywhere, we should not idolize them.
Help them to get over their problem.

Did you ever see a picture of that "sailboat"? More like a fat raft with a stick. It darn sure was not a cat. Another case of paying attention to sillyness breeds more sillyness.

Didn't you ever figure that out in Junior High?

Do I admire the guys toughness, yes, but I would never teach my son to show his
"true grit" in the same way.

Good, you have a chance to learn.

Watch out for that pitchpole if you try to go sailing on your cat.

looks like youre making one of these: [IMG] use oars or a trolling motor at most, don't bother with a sail.
