quick answers Tom- more details if you need them. I will have to review the materials list for the ply count. 2000 lbs 12-15 kts not even close (about 5 feet) The Buc is 19 ' wide, and does not fold for motoring or canals, France is pretty solid- so I think you would have to go around it- and that is a Very long trip in a small tri. Have you sailed much in small boats around your coast? B

Yeah thanks for that Bruce. I'm a experienced yachtsman and navigator, and skippered my first yacht aged 17. I'm 62 now... France and the whole of Europe have an extensive canal system. You can motor up to Paris from the English Channel, and motor all the way down the middle of France and come out in the Med... I've sailed small yachts down the western seaboard of Europe, but the Bay of Biscay is quite a challenge to cross in a wee boat. in severe gales 20 or 30 ft waves... I would not like to try it in a wee trimaran... The headroom is a disappointment, but the speed is amazing... So she weighs just under a ton on her waterline...

Dc_3? Tom, I think a Marples DC-3 (27') is about perfect for your intended use- the only catch? is it will cost about twice as much to build as a Buc 24, and take about three times as long- but you would have a boat very suited for the task, at about half or less than the price of a factory built folding tri. Check it out! Unfortunately, I am about your age (60) and as much as I would like to have a boat like the Buc 28 or the Marples, I don't feel I have the time/energy/resources to build one, so I keep checking the used/damaged listings to see if I can come close. Here in the USA, a Buc 24 will use about 10-15K in materials, and I think your costs are about the same. A DC-3 or a Buc 28 will be somewhere in the 20-25K- getting very close to the average price of a used F-boat, without having to build it . B

Wow Reuben, that B24 looks to be in good condition and at that price is a good buy. Pity the cabin has been built more tall than designed, it really spoils the lines --but--horses for courses. ![]()

Pat, Also looks rather pregnant ! It has been flared around the cabin, but yes good buy ! For me it would cost that again to get it across the country ! RR

Reuben. From past experience I can tell you that "Pregnant" bit would be very noisy and drag producing in anything but dead flat water sailing---and even that at speed. ![]()

I'd have to query some of their mods on the boat and fitting a saildrive? Just seems silly on a boat this size to add weight and drag when a simple outboard on a bracket would do the job.

Buc 24 Finally finished the Cobra and got all the sand rails sold. Now maybe I can finally start the Buc. I had a rather bad computer crash and haven't gotten any updates or notices lately. ![]()

pregnant 24 RR, I have wondered how well something like that would work. The "bump-out" is well V-ed, and might actually help in some conditions. Many of the newer small tris use something similar. The 24 does ride low, so the hull expansion is going to be in the waves but maybe the extra volume will help. I would be interested in how they used the extra interior space. B
