Brisbane to Gladstone Multihull Yacht Race

Sean Langman's Team Australia ORMA 60(ex Banque Populaire IV) is all set to chase down Martyn Riley's Raw Nerve race record of 18 hours 55 minutes 9 seconds. They expect to be able to slice a couple of hours off the record if conditions remain as predicted.

http://www.sail-world.com/Australia/...r-threat/95682

They have a satellite tracker on the Multihull Yacht Club of Queensland website I assume it will show boat positions once the race is started. The
race starts on the 6th of April.

Here is a link to a listing of this years competitors.

The race has started and here is the tracker http://b2g-179331447.ap-southeast-1..../yachttracker/ the mono's are underway. Hover your mouse over the boat and get the current position and basic info on the boat.

"UBS Wild thing" has not started ? and the multihulls are yet to start.

Both fleets are to round the South Cardinal mark near Moreton Island, passing fairly close to the Tangalooma Resort there, and then cross closer to Bribie Island to follow the Spitfire Channel and to enter the open sea near Caloundra. - Lots of moving sandbars to avoid.

I do not know what has happened to the ORMA "Team Australia", as it has slowed to 4 something knots and seems like "Renaissance" has also got several buckets on ropes trailing astern of her to slow progress ???

ORMA 60 "Team Australia" is now 3.7 knots WTF ???????? are both to be early withdrawals? Oh bugger? Nup, just a glitch in data supply?

Update from MYCQ webpage:

http://www.mycq.org.au/index.htm

13:40 Team Australia on race record pace. News release by Ian Grant.

Sean Langman’s fast lane sailing trimaran Team Australia predictably left her rivals in her wake when they power sailed to a commanding lead in the Multihull class Brisbane to Gladstone race this afternoon.
The exceptionally fast triple-hull yacht covered the initial 20 nautical miles of the 308 nautical mile race in 55 minutes to lay down a claim to break the 18 hour 55 minute 9 second race record before dawn tomorrow. Her owner skipper Sean Langman is no stranger to racing on this tactically demanding course having set two of the three fastest times with his similarly exciting open 60 class mono sloop AAPT Grundig.

After 1 hour of racing Team Australia had extended her lead as she tracked a fast course to enter the North West shipping channel. Race officials predicted that Team Australia will clear the Caloundra Fairway Buoy before 3 pm then continue to produce her impressive performance when she sails into stronger wind blowing on the open ocean.

Top 3 multis are flying, Team Aus 27 knots and way out in front, Mojo and Chill Pill mid 18s, both Schionning cruiser/racers are way ahead of the BIG monos, keep it up guys!

Update, B.O.S.S. Racing tracker is back online, close to the Schionnings at 23+ knots,

Team Australia is well past the midpoint of the race with about 130nm to go if everything hangs together looks like they will certainly break the existing record.
